Practical Skills • Real Opportunities

Skills that can change a life

VECECAB provides practical vocational training for young people and community members who have had limited access to education, employment and economic opportunities.

We believe that learning a practical skill can be the beginning of greater independence. A skill can help someone find work, create a small source of income, support a family and participate more confidently in community life.

Why Training Matters

Opportunity begins with a practical skill

Many people in the communities we serve have talent and determination, but have not had equal access to education or professional training.

Without practical skills, it can be difficult to find employment or create an independent source of income.

VECECAB works to reduce this gap by providing practical training that focuses on skills people can use in everyday life and in their local economy.

Training is not only about learning how to make or build something. It is also about developing confidence, responsibility, problem-solving and the belief that a person can create a better future through their own abilities.

Vocational Training

Learning by doing

Our training programmes are practical in nature. Participants develop skills through hands-on learning, guidance and experience.

Earn as You Train

Training connected to real life

VECECAB believes vocational education becomes stronger when participants can connect what they are learning with real practical work.

Our Earn as You Train approach encourages participants to learn through useful production and practical activities wherever possible.

This helps learners understand that the skills they are developing have real value and can become part of their future livelihood.

The long-term goal is greater independence: giving people the ability to use what they have learned to create opportunities for themselves and their families.

01 Learn

Develop practical skills through hands-on training and guidance.

02 Practice

Build confidence by applying skills through real practical work.

03 Produce

Learn how skills can be used to create useful products and services.

04 Build a Future

Turn knowledge and experience into opportunities for greater independence.

Our Training Approach

Practical learning for real community needs

Not every learner arrives with the same education, experience or opportunities.

VECECAB therefore places strong emphasis on practical learning and direct participation.

This is especially important in communities where some participants may have had limited access to formal schooling or may find written training materials difficult to use.

Demonstration, practice, repetition and direct guidance can help make vocational education more accessible and meaningful.

👐 Hands-on Learning

Skills are developed through practical participation rather than theory alone.

🧠 Confidence

Learning a skill can help participants recognise their own abilities and potential.

🔧 Useful Skills

Training focuses on abilities that can have practical value in the local community.

🌱 Independence

The goal is to help participants become more capable of creating opportunities for themselves.

Inclusive Opportunity

Creating opportunities for women and youth

Women and young people make up a major part of our communities, yet they do not always have equal access to vocational training and economic opportunities.

👩

Women

We want more women to have access to practical training that can support independence, confidence and income-generating activities.

🧑‍🎓

Young People

Skills training can provide an alternative pathway for young people who have had limited opportunities through formal education.

🤝

Community

When people become skilled and more independent, the benefits can extend to their families and the wider community.

Women & Youth Empowerment

As part of VECECAB’s work to improve food security and household income, we engage women and youth in practical group-based activities. The aim is to help families become more self-reliant, increase the availability of nutritious food at home, and create opportunities to earn an income.

Women and youth receive practical training in vegetable growing for both home consumption and quick income generation. Because vegetables mature relatively fast, families can improve their nutrition while also selling surplus produce in the community.

Participants are also trained in poultry farming for eggs, meat and manure. Poultry contributes to both nutrition and household income. The manure is used in vegetable growing as organic fertilizer, while eggs and meat can be sold or consumed at home.

VECECAB also encourages women and youth to work in groups, support one another and strengthen teamwork. Through simple saving schemes, members are helped to save money for farm inputs, future investments and emergencies.

Together, these activities help build skills, improve livelihoods and strengthen the well-being of households and communities.

Growing Our Capacity

What we are working to improve

The demand for practical training is greater than the resources currently available to us.

VECECAB continues to work towards improving its training environment so that more people can receive better practical education.

🏫

Training Space

We need to improve and extend our training rooms so that participants have enough space to learn and work safely.

🛠️

Tools & Equipment

More tools, equipment and training materials would allow participants to gain more practical experience.

👨‍🏫

Supporting Trainers

Skilled teachers and trainers are central to quality vocational education and need adequate support and resources.

🛏️

Accommodation

Developing dormitory facilities would help VECECAB support learners who cannot easily travel to the training centre each day.

Skills Create Opportunity

Help us equip people for their future

Better training rooms, more tools, materials and support for trainers can help VECECAB reach more people and improve the quality of practical education available to the community.
